I was working with a mortgage broker who had pre-approved me months earlier for my home purchase. Unfortunately, once the escrow process began, it appeared that my pre-qualification was worthless. This should not have happened, as I was a strong buyer with a high credit score. My broker was powerless, dealing with the red-tape and hurdles cast upon us by the bank underwriters. We were three weeks past our original escrow closing date, with no light at the end of our tunnel.
